Slateman nears its target
2012 Slateman Tri on target for record numbers along with mainstream TV coverage
A little over 12 months ago the Snowdonia Slateman triathlon was but a dream in the minds of organisers Tim Lloyd and Nigel Kendrick. Forward one year and the two have managed to not only formulate one of the most exciting trail triathlons in the UK, but also create an events company that will this year organise six events around the northern coastlines and mountains of Snowdonia in 2012.
The Snowdonia Slateman was launched in May 2011 and has since been acclaimed as one of the most exciting events on the triathlon calendar hosting 400 entrants in its first year. However 2012 sees the event doubling in size as 750 entries are up for grabs, and with almost four months to go until this years triathlon over 400 have been taken.
Nigel Kendrick, co-director of Always Aim High Events states:
“It’s phenomenal really, we have received a huge amount of interest for the 2012 event. Many of the entrants are returning to compete again this year, testament to the success of the inaugural event last year. To help the event grow in a sustainable way we have capped entries at 700 for this year, and feel that we will fill-up well ahead of race day on May 20.
“With this in mind we would urge anyone intending to enter and as yet not having done so, to get their place booked as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.”
2012 has also seen Always Aim High Events recruit Chain Reaction Cycles as their official retail partner of both their Triathlon Series – which includes the Snowdonia Slateman and the Anglesey Sandman, and new-for-2012 Snowman Triathlon, along with the Etape Eryri cycle sportive in June.
In line with their exciting event growth plans the company has also secured terrestrial TV coverage for the Slateman and Anglesey Sandman events this year. A 30-minute highlights package will be produced by top UK adventure sports TV company Dream Team Television – whose work includes the 3 Peaks Race, Cardiff Half Marathon and Ironman Wales – and will be aired on Welsh language channel S4C, Channel 4 on their traditional and highly-popular Saturday morning slot, and British Eurosport. Numerous international channels in Europe, north America and Asia will also broadcast the event to a potential audience of millions.
Fellow Always Aim High Events director Tim Lloyd states:
“The TV aspect is particularly exciting for us. Not only will our event and the sport of triathlon be party to some fantastic coverage, but also the north-west corner of Wales will be showcased as a place of beauty and attract hopefully additional tourism to the area in the future. It’s a win-win situation really as we will also push our event out to the world via this TV coverage.”
The Always Aim High Events triathlon series gets underway on May 20 with the Snowdonia Slateman tri, with the inaugural Etape Eryri taking place on Sunday the 17th of June. Entries to these, and all of the 2012 Always Aim High events line-up, are open now via the www.alwaysaimhighevents.com site.
