Snowdonia Marathon

Considered amongst the UK’s toughest and most picturesque marathons, the Snowdonia Marathon celebrates its 30th edition in 2012.

The inaugural Snowdonia Marathon was held in 1982, and was conceived as a dramatic alternative to the numerous city and town races becoming so popular. The demanding and spectacular route, encircling Snowdon, Wales’ and England’s highest peak, has given the event a unique place in the annual marathon calendar ever since.

Marathon Eryri Cyf (a non-profit making organisation) was set up in 2007 to take over the bulk of organising the Snowdonia Marathon from the National Trust. From the outset, the new organisation was determined that the race would raise as much money for local causes as possible. The 2007 race saw a total of £11,000 going to the local causes.

Following the 2008 race, Marathon Eryri were able to donate over £14,000 to local groups and in 2009 donated a further £13,000. This money has been used in a variety of ways from building a climbing wall in a local Primary School to helping fund trips for local volunteering groups.

Our work at the event includes media and communications management, event organisation, finish line commentary and TV production assistance.
